Portland Paradise
Man, I love Oregon - not sure if it is the green that makes me breathe deep or the amazing friends that loved on Adelaine and hosted us this last weeked, but it was all amazing. Thank you so much to those friends who were so sweet this last weekend. Can't wait for a day to come back and see even more dear friends.
A couple of kid stories too:
Leading up to the trip Adelaine was telling Lukas real sassy about how she was going on the trip. She had her hands on her hips and was telling him a whole lot of bossy information. Annoyed, Lukas started prancing, dramatically walking around with his hands on his hips, saying "Look at me, I'm awkward." She only yelled at him and said, "you aren't even doing it right."
On the trip, I called home in the middle of the airport. While checking in with Lukas' day, he asked to talk to Adelaine. I said, "Oh honey, that is so sweet. Here she is." Adelaine got on the phone. Lukas just said, "Hello hobbit". Adelaine just SCREAMED in the middle of the airport, "DON'T CALL ME HOBBIT." I got on the phone to sarcastically thank LUkas for that, but he didn't hear me because he was laughing too hard.
I called on another occassion to check in with Adam..then he handed the phone to Lukas. We talked about his day and I asked for him to hand the phone back to Adam. There was silence and then a deep "hello?" I knew it was LUkas impersonating Adam. We went on in a conversation for while with him pretending to be Adam, but when I said, "Adam, I want you to give Lukas 5 spanks." he just calmly said, "Okay, see you later" and hung up.
We got home from our trip and it wasn't long til the two kids were at it again. Yesterday when I picked up Adelaine from school, Lukas must have said something that annoyed Adelaine. SHe began to correct him saying "But, LUkas..." and put her hands on her hips again. LUkas just rolled his eyes and said, "Oh no, not the Hips again. Put those things away, you Hobbit." I have a hard time disciplining when it is funny and when I kind of understand his annoyance at bossyness. oh dear.
A sweet moment (they do come): We have been going to Awana this year and the kids are so proud of when they memorize their verses and apparently realizing the power of scripture. Lukas was watching a movie and the hero of the story did a lot of great things to help people. Lukas just sighed and said, "he must have known a LOT of verses." Good call!
